The Honorable (full name)
United States Senate (OR
U.S. House of Representatives)
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator/Representative (last name),

My name is <your first and last name> and I am writing to urge you to speak out against S.3319 which was brought forth by Dick Durban. I smoked tobacco for <insert years you smoked> years and <insert the flavor that helped you switch here> is the flavor that helped me stop smoking. There was a flavor study done earlier this year that shows that flavored vape liquid helps adults quit smoking. That study can be found at https://tinyurl.com/DrFFlavors. A Public Health England study also showed that vaping is about 95% safer than smoking. That study can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/vapingissafer. Without vaping, I don't know how I could stay away from cigarette's. Adults deserve that right to choose a safer alternative to smoking cigarette's. You can find many other studies that show that vaping is not a gateway to smoking, is drastically less addictive than tobacco, and much more at IQuitSmokingByVaping.com.  Please stand up against S.3319, which is a bill without any scientific or clinical merit. Vaper's vote too. My local shop in <city name> is also helping spread the word because this bill would have a large impact on our community.

Sincerely,

<Your Name>

Tips for writing your own letter/e-mail

  • Use your personal story
    • You know your story better than anyone else does! The person on the other end will be able to tell your are genuine.
  •  DON'T USE SLANG
    •  If your letter/e-mail isn't serious, your senator/representative won't take you seriously.
  • Keep it short and to the point
    • Lawmakers get inundated with lots of calls, e-mails, and letters. Make sure to get your point across, but don't put in details you don't need to tell your story
  • Relate it to the jurisdiction they serve
    • This is how you get the point across that by not speaking out against S.3319, it can affect their votes. Find a way to relate your e-mail to home.
  • Allow for follow up
    • Always include a way for them to get ahold of you
  •  Identify yourself
    • Make sure they know who you are. Feel free to add your job title or military service too! (e.g, My name is Travis Ross and I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corp or My name is Eric Miller and I work at a local non profit fighting homelessness).
  •  Address them properly
